Banjo in the Mountains Easter Weekend, March 24-27
Lansing, North Carolina
Instructors: Adam Hurt & Cathy Fink++
Join Adam & Cathy for a beautiful weekend in the Smokey Mountains in the hometown of banjo player/songwriter Ola Belle Reed. This is an intimate immersion workshop for only 10 students. There will be 4-5 other students in your class, so each player will get detailed attention to their technique. The weekend is open to early intermediate through advanced players. It is not recommended for beginners.
Learn techniques, tunings and approaches to playing banjo/fiddle tunes and song accompaniment.

Thursday March 24, 7pm-9pm
Arrival, meet & greet, light dinner, jam session
Friday, March 25
10am-12pm – Classes
12-2pm – lunch break, hike,
2-4 – Classes
4-6:30 BREAK
6:30- Dinner in downtown Lansing at Pie on the Mountain
8pm- Jam session.
Saturday, March 26
10am-12pm – Classes
12-12:45 – lunch break
1-2:30 – Classes
2:30- FREE TIME – Hike, explore Boone or West Jefferson, Sleep, Practice, Meditate
7:00 -Dinner - potluck on the Mountain
8pm- Concert with Adam, Cathy & Marcy Marxer
Sunday, March 27
10am – BANJO BRUNCH – eat your banjo, or the yummy food.
11-1- More than one way to play everything. Workshop for all with Adam & Cathy
1pm – Goodbye’s and y’all come back now.

There are two rental cabins on the adjacent Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm for rent to us for $125 per night.
Cabin 1 – 3 bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living room
Cabin 2 – 1 bedroom, 1 bedroom loft, 1 bathroom, kitchen, living room
There are motels in nearby Jefferson and West Jefferson, NC and many other cabin opportunities nearby.
Lansing is in the NW corner of the state. It is a 2 hour drive from the Asheville airport and a under 2 hours to the Tri-Cities Regional Airport in TN.

Adam Hurt, deemed a "banjo virtuoso" by the Washington Post, has fused several traditional old-time idioms to create his own elegantly innovative clawhammer banjo style. He has taught at every major banjo camp, released four banjo-centric recordings and teaches constantly via skype and live lessons.
Cathy Fink has been playing banjo since 1974. Her CD “Banjo Haiku” influenced Adam Hurt and a few generations of old time players. She teaches clawhammer banjo with www.Truefire.com and with www.homespun.com. She tours and performs with Marcy Marxer and has released a total of 44 albums. She produced Adam Hurt’s album, “Insight”.
