Well, the tendon didn't heal, still can't straighten the left-hand ring fingertip. Just getting some strength and callouses back on my fingers after 9 weeks in a splint. I can play most banjo stuff, fiddle, and some guitar, not tried mandolin yet, but I'm reasonably confident I'll get there.
However, I managed to pick up a new/old banjo...a 1927 TB3 no-hole raised head 2pf with a gorgeous period-correct 5 string neck ! Factory order number 0228-41, bought from BHO member David Nixon. It arrived still in tune, which testifies to the great packaging ! All original pot apart from one reso screw replaced.
All set up with a Katseye bridge and a head tuned to G sharp, it sounds more like a prewar flathead than I could have thought possible. Complex tone, 4th string growl, and smooth highs up the neck. Very pleased, may become my main player after fitting D tuners.
