A Reasonable Band

Posted by FretlessinTexas on Saturday, June 27, 2015

like this

She was very nice, very polite. She worked for a small-town chamber of commerce and she called to ask if we -- the Lone Star String Band -- might perform at their Fourth of July celebration.

But then she stepped right into it by saying that the band would not be paid but that we might ought to perform for "exposure."

Our reply: "You know, the old gentleman told us a long time ago that a fella can die from exposure."

You see, the problem with playing for free is that there is no money in it.

And while our wives do not mind us being gone, indeed, they might prefer that, they do expect us to come home with money after our gigs, which is reasonable on their part.

And that makes us a reasonable band. Come see us bust down with our old-time music.

We'll see you down the road.

I agree 100%. We're playing for a 4th celebration tonight. They normally don't pay over $300 for a band, but we started out asking for $500 and settled for $350 for an hour gig with sound equipment. Not so bad for these parts.

Love it.

Yeah, it was always that way. Some one would tell us about a gig they had for us.
Our reply was; "Sounds great! What does the job pay?"
Watchin' 'em squirm was almost good enough recompense to play for.
