Australian Bush Dance Tunes for the 5-String Banjo ( 3 finger style )

Posted by peter somerville on Friday, March 13, 2015

like this

I've put together a new book of tunes. It's similar to my discontinued book of Celtic and Australian tunes but this time it concentrates on tunes likely to be played at Australian bush dances. Jigs, polkas, reels, hornpipes and a couple of waltzes. Many are Celtic in origin. Immigrants from the the British Isles brought their music with them in the 1950s and 60s and bands like the Bushwackers popularized them. I haven't found a book like this available in Australia so I hope pickers will find it useful. it's not a 'how to play banjo' book. it's aimed at players who can already play basic bluegrass and looking to expand their repetoire.

Oh, wait, I'm talking about the first collection, which also has Celtic and Australian tunes, plus a companion CD, which is awesome!
