Hi Everybody, I`ve just read Hal Leonard`s book " How to set up the best sounding banjo".On string spacing he says the distance between each string should be 5/16" but he does`nt say how far from either end of the nut the top and bottom string should be, can anybody help me. I`m have a problem with catching the next string during push offs.

I'd have to see what you're doing to be sure, but it sounds like you're choking (pushing the string into the next string) the string rather than just pulling or "popping" it off. If you move the string when you do a push off, you're choking and if you choke too much, it's easy to hit the next string. It might be your technique that needs work. Again, I'd have to watch to see if my assumption is correct or completely wrong.
