The New "Nedski" CD is here!!!

Posted by Nedski on Tuesday, July 31, 2007

My CD is finally done and available!
It's only been 17 years since my last solo effort, although that one was actually a duet effort with Ron Pennington... So this is actually my first! Wow!
The new CD is called "Nedski" and features a few standards, a few originals and some wacky stuff too. And it's finally available for sale on my website Nedski.com.
The following are the liner notes and credits from the CD. It was the easiest (and most direct) way I could think of to let you know what's on it. Guest stars include: Chris Jones, Jon Weisberger, Jeremy Garrett, Mike Compton, Noam Pikelny, Chris Pandolfi, Mike Witcher, Ron Pennington and my wife Kelley Luberecki. There's at least one sample on my MySpace page of one of the tunes. I'll change it out from time to time. Thanks to all the musicians who played so great on this thing! And to my wife Kelley for nudging me to complete this project after so many years!
Again, if you'd like to buy one for your very own, just go to nedski.com for online secure purchasing through CCNow.
Here's what's on it:
  1. Intro (Clement E. Luberecki, Jr. – Clement Luberecki Music, BMI)
    Ned Luberecki: Banjo.

A technique borrowed from Eddie Van Halen called fret tapping gives this its unique sound.

  2. Owed To Earl - Medley: Cripple Creek, Cumberland Gap, Sally Ann and Little Darlin', Pal of Mine (P.D.)
Ned Luberecki: Banjo - Chris Jones: Guitar - Jon Weisberger: Bass - Jeremy Garrett: Fiddle - Mike Compton: Mandolin

I wanted to record this medley not only as a tribute to the great Earl Scruggs, but also because, as a banjo teacher, I've been teaching these songs for over 20 years and have always enjoyed playing them. I especially like the way the fiddle and banjo sound together on "Sally Ann."

  3. Cabin of Death (Clement E. Luberecki, Jr. – Clement Luberecki Music, BMI)
Ned Luberecki: Banjo, Lead and baritone vocal - Jeremy Garrett: Fiddle, Tenor vocal - Chris Jones: Guitar - Jon Weisberger: Bass - Mike Compton: Mandolin

I wrote this song back in the 1980s when I was playing with Paul Adkins' Borderline Band. It was my attempt at the "Perfect Bluegrass Song". You gotta have a cabin song, right?

  4. Last Chance (P.D. Traditional)
    Ned Luberecki: Banjo

I learned this one from Reed Martin, one of the finest old-time banjo players in the world. It's a familiar tune to old-time players, but I've never heard it done three finger style before. It's in "Last Chance" tuning: fDFCD if you want to play along.

  5. And Take Your Brother With You (Clement E. Luberecki, Jr. – Clement Luberecki Music, BMI)
Ned Luberecki: Banjo - Chris Jones: Guitar - Jon Weisberger: Bass - Jeremy Garrett: Fiddle - Mike Compton: Mandolin

This one came from a Bill Monroe mandolin lick which you can hear in "Uncle Pen". The title comes from one of those Monroe stories which may or may not be true. Ask me sometime, and I'll tell it to you.

  6. Halley Came To Jackson (Mary Chapin Carpenter – EMI April M
