I used to wonder..."How is that banjo making that real unusual plucking pattern sound"?Clawhammer...Frailing....go along fiddle melody...?Before computer internet YouTube,well,there was no way out at the end of the road ,Mexico border....to find out...no fiddle music from Virginia.So,into the Big Empty came a fiddler from California.A hard nose,devotee to old time music.He got 2 of us to learn how to play back up...guitar,then a cheap china Epiphone 5 string openback.we only played rythem chords.The fiddle circle was fun.No local singer-songwriter dudes while the fiddle sang.At the end it was free for all.Showboating.One day the need to learn melody was appearant.That was the beginning of a love born of the fiddle tunes and banjo tunes put together with Joy.
