As I type this I am sitting in the cafe at Borders. It is approx. 11 pm and I am here with my family awaiting the release of the 7th (and final) Harry Potter book. The place is packed with kids and adults some in costumes some not, awaiting the book release.
This is my third Harry Potter book release party at Borders. We also attended the parties for books 5 and 6. Our family "discovered" Harry Potter between the release of the 3rd and 4th books. My eldest children were nine and six at the time and they fell completely in love with the series. My then six year old daughter was a very early reader (American Girl books at four and The Wizard of Oz at five). She and her nine year old brother would read ahead in the books during the day and I would read the books aloud to them at night.
One of my fondest memories is of my daughter me (around her 7th birthday) that she would make Hogwarts when she grew up. She is now 14 and her brother is 17 and will be starting his senior year in High School. My ten year old stepson and 15 month old daughter are here too. My stepson is a big HP fan, too. It's his third Border's HP party too.
This is my youngest daughter's first and last Harry Potter book release party. She has yet to read a Harry Potter book. By the time she "discovers" Harry Potter there won't be any book release parties (and probably all the movies will have been made and released).
The kids are all wearing some type of Harry Potter costumes and my hubby came up with a last minute "Mad-eye Moody" costume that has gotten a bit of attention. If you are an HP fan some of this may have some meaning to you.
Either way, I'm sure you'll be able to appreciate that I am listening to the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Dan Gellert, Wade Ward, Kyle Creed, and the Holy Modal Rounders on my Ipod. Not a bad way to spend the hours!
