February 2014 Northwest Tour (2/7-9) and Portland, OR Banjo Workshop 2/10

Posted by bevans on Sunday, February 2, 2014

Hi folks,

I want to share the news of my upcoming (but brief) tour up through the Northwest. I'll be bringing an SUV full of banjos and presenting the current version of my solo show, that I call "The Banjo in America," presenting over 250 years of banjo music on a variety of great vintage and reproduction instruments.  You'll hear everything from bluegrass to old-time fingerpicking, minstrel, classic and African-derived styles, maybe some electric banjo and considerable doses of my own original music.

Check out this Fretboard Journal video for a concert preview and watch more video on Bill's YouTube Channel. To learn more about "The Banjo in America" visit Bill's homepage.

Here's all  info you need:

Friday, February 7: Ashland, OR: Unitarian Fellowship, 4th and C Streets, for St. Clair Productions. Tickets $18 advance / $20 door / $10 teens 12-17. Children under 12 free with paying adult. Click here for more info.

Saturday, February 8: Portland, OR: Abbie Weisenbloom House Concerts, location in inner SE Portland (specific address given after you make your reservation). 6:30 pot luck (which is fantastic, by the way!), 7:30 p.m. show. Phone 503-233-4945 or email for info and to reserve a seat.

Sunday, February 9: Bellingham, WA: Nancy's Farm, 2030 E. Smith Road, NOTE: 4 p.m. concert. Suggested donatoin is $8 to $12. Phone 360-966-4640 for info.

Monday, February 10: Portland, OR, "Jam Survival Skills Bluegrass Banjo Workshop," 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., $40, for all levels. This is a "hands-on-and let's-pick" style of workshop designed for all players but ideal for those with one or more years of playing experience. Learn the secrets of having fun playing with others in bluegrass jam sessions. Topics include the role of the banjo in a jam, what you should play to accompany others, using your ear to hear chord changes and following the guitar, vamping, roll patterns and up-the-neck backup, using fill-in licks, negotiating kick-offs and endings, and using the capo to play in all keys. Email Claire Levine or phone 503-830-3453 for specific address and to make your reservation.

I hope to see some of my many Northwest friends next weekend and thanks for your support!

Sincerely,

Bill Evans

Thanks for bringing this concert/banjo workshop to Alberta in January. It was a blast and surprise guest was awesome. Enjoying the two DVD's I bought from you which will, no doubt, improve my jamming pleasure.
