I'm starting this blog mainly for myself, basically to keep track of how the weekly jam and anything banjo related is going. So, I'll get rolling!
Took a lesson with Keith Reed last Saturday and worked on Gold Rush with him. He pointed out a few trouble spots where I wasn't keeping rhythm well. Mostly that damn first 5 measures or so that gives me such fits. I don't know why the manipulation around those first two strings is so hard for me but it is. Also worked on back up for All the Good Times. He didn't like the vamping back up I did so he showed me an example of rolling back up. Then he taught me Ground Speed, which after a few days I have down fairly. Thought it was a lot harder than it was! Just need to work on faster/cleaner.
Jam Wednesday night was good. Smaller than it has been which was nice. I led Clinch Mountain Backstep (by request!) and did ok. Worked more on rolling backup/licks rather than just vamping like I usually do. Need to work on a break for Little Maggie. Just got to get a little faster!
