July 19th...Busy times lately. My twins, my elderly mother and I have all had birthdays in the last couple weeks, and I'm full of cake....slowing me down. I've also got my 3 neices with us for the next month or so...so, it's effectively a family with 5 kids ages 15 down to 3...busy but fun house, actually.
I've been picking for the last couple months with a group of very talented bluegrassers, and that's been encouraging. I've been practicing pretty regularly, although my practicing hasn't been as efficient as I need it to be. Working with my iPod and a "slowing down" program has been great, but I haven't learned enough new stuff lately. I also haven't made any real progress through a back-up DVD I purchased. So, I feel a touch stagnant although my picking is OK. I also have a few tunes that I need to learn that I just haven't played in many, many years that keep coming up in our sessions (like Clinch Mountain Backstep, Devil's Dream and Katy Hill). I can fake my way through these, but it's just not enough. I need to get them down.
It was easier being a decent banjo player before I was a father, but this is definitely more fun!!! Best wishes, Lem
