I just posted a new tab and sound file for the traditional song Adieu False Heart. This version is based on the album of the same name, released in 2006 by Linda Ronstadt and Ann Savoy. It is a wonderful album, with some good banjo playing -- not quite enough for my taste, but I may be biased. It is also Ronstadt's most recent, and probably last album. She has Parkinson's and is no longer able to perform.
The song is simple, but I really struggled in the process of tabbing it out. There is a funny rhythmic thing in there, which I think I finally captured correctly. Of course as a strictly oral tradition you don't need to be as concerned with the documentation. But for me, I find the tabbing process helpful -- especially in communicating with other musicians. And hopefully someone else in banjo-land will find it useful as well. On our recording I pressed my neighbor Sean Ames into service with the mandolin backup. And my sister, Rebecca, on vocals. She has a lovely voice and I need to get her singing more. Maybe we can even get a regular thing going! The recording itself is not the greatest. My son took all the good recording gear with him to college, so I'm left at the moment with my iPhone. Maybe Santa will be good to me in December!
