I finally jammed with a bluegrass musician this past Saturday and I stumbled all over the place , forgot notes , etc. I know many articles have been written about this but this has finally happened to me. Up to this point I have played in front of family and friends and my buddy next door (who plays guitar) and everything has been great, I have recorded myself playing and have posted MP3's and videos on this sight and so far so good, but about a week ago I placed an add online saying Bluegrass Banjo seeks Guitar player, and I explained that I have been playing for three years now but was looking for someone to jam with on a regular basis. The ad was answered in a week and veteran bluegrass player came over my house and the first song he picked was nine pound hammer which I have a little trouble with and I stumbled all over the place, he gave me a list of songs to play and I only knew two of the songs on the list! No Cripple Creek (even though we did play it) I did ok , No John Hardy, Fireball Mail ..etc.., so basically I just did vamping for two hours, I was to afraid to take a break, I was sweating all over the place, thank God he brought over a few Beers! I had my own too! And at the end of all this he wants to jam again? So I think I will give it a try, of course when he left I played good again. God has a sense of humor!

Happens to me often! The minute I get ready to play in front of people my hands/fingers start shaking so badly I can't hit the strings!!!! At home by myself, I bored stiff and sick of playing alone, but I do pretty well on medium speed songs. I just started a weekly slow jam session in my area and have about 8 to 10 different instruments coming, all except one guitar player is at my level, and everyone but the guitar player has the same problem. We are all having a wonderful time, learning new things every time and intend to keep it up till we learn how to do this well!!

Hi Linda,
Yeah I'm sick of playing by myself too, so I think it is learning experience I will have to go through just like the rest of us.have a great Labor Day.
