This month's Banjo News has a tribute to Wayne Erbsen, marking the 40th anniversary of the publication of Clawhammer Banjo for the Complete Ignoramus. I don't actually own the book, but I do have his Southern Mountain Series of books. I lent out the Mandolin and Guitar copies to friends, and haven't seen them back lately -- gotta bug those friends to get together for some jamming. I still have the Banjo and Dulcimer versions. All are terrific, as is the accompanying CD. On the CD they do a tune called Red Rocking Chair, which is basically the same as the Rain and Snow covered in the complete ignoramus.
So I've been picking at the tune for a while but hadn't really worked it up as something I could actually play. But now I have -- and posted it here - https://soundcloud.com/rodeworks/cold-rain-and-snow . The words are adapted from several sources. It is nice when the song tells a story -- even a somber one such as this.
