I say find the guy who teaches what you want to learn. You'll be more enthusiastic and challenged and just enjoy it more.
My teacher had posted an ad on craigslist. Just dumb luck, he is great.
Best of luck to you!

hi chris, i think you would benifit from learning chords and a bit of strumming wont hurt, but if you want to play a certain style you probably need to start as you mean to go on as you will find its harder to un-learn a technique/bad habit than it is to learn it.
and you want to thank your lucky stars you have a choice, over here in england i've spent the last two months trying to find a teacher of any kind and cant find one in my home city at all!
good luck with the lessons my friend

Hi Chris, just wondering what instructor did you find in Newnan? Right now I'm going to Musicology in downtown Newnan, my instructors name is Patrick Thompson, have you tried him, not sure if he is the best in the Newnan area, but he was my first stop, so I'll give him a chance and he does know the Earl Scruggs 3 finger style. Let me know who you think is the best in the area and who to stay away from.
Thanks.
