After what seems like an eternity I finally have the outside of my block construction rim shaped. This has taken me months to get through using just a set of rasps, shaping plane and sandpaper and I'm pretty please with the uniformity of the shape. I'm going to cave and use an electric hand sander to take off the final 1/16" and to iron out any of the subtle bumps until the tension hoop fits nicely over the whole thing, leaving a little space for the head as well.
I guess the next inevitable step is to get to work shaping the interior of the rim, again with hand tools due to my lack of a lathe, so I this will have me back with another update in 6 more months :-(
Once that's done I'll be wrestling with the heel of the neck to get a snug fit against the rim as well as drilling for the hardware.
