I do no know for how long, but I am having to put the banjo down till the Tendonitis is gone. I have been having trouble with my right elbow the last several weeks. At first I thought I slept on my arm wrong, but several days later and more pain, I wondered if I pulled a muscle. I was wrong on both counts and realized that finger picking the banjo was making things worse.
So.....now I am treating the Tendonitis and hoping I can pick up banjo again soon. This is a big bummer since I have had more time to play while I am unemployed. Had included some playing time almost daily as a reward for a good day job hunting.
Anyone else have to deal with Tendonitis and if so, how long does it take?
Ed

I walked in the doctors office about five years ago to have my elbow checked thinking it was a pinched nerve or something. I came out of the office with a cast from my hand to me armpit. I was out of work for three months. I can still feel it to this day. Make sure you go to the therapy treatments as they worked wonders for my elbow. Good luck.

Sorry to hear this Ed, I'll be down your way before too long, I guess a picking session for us is out of the question for now.
Take good care, wish you the best in recovery.

Tendonitis is a bummer. I've had it for years. Both arms. It never really goes away. It just getts a bit better.

I blew my elbow out in college football from a severe hyperextension. Treatment, ice and ultra-sound therapy. Result-not much help. So most of my adult life I have fought episodes of a painful elbow. 3 years ago I did it again, only this time with a hammer and anvil. Blacksmiths elbow-tendonitius on both sides. Very painful, lost some use of fingers for a while. Still hurts, can't afford time off that would be required for the surgery I know I need-if that is even still an option. I still play clawhammer style. I still do a little blacksmithing. No pain-no gain, no-pain, no play. But, dont follow my old "jock" attitude and situation with my consulting work. Ice pack it regularly, don't try to play through the pain. including wheel-barreling, carrying luggage, pushing a pencil, etc. Stabilize with an elastic brace, when trying to play. Then there is the ibupropen, oops I am not a doctor, I am though an idiot. Brad

Now I feel really special Ed. A picking session would be fun, and a trip down to Deering great. Have to see how the schedules work out, I'll keep in touch buddy.
