Rover RB35 experiment

Posted by MildBill on Thursday, April 11, 2013

I had some left over carpet padding and decided to try an experiment.  My Rover 35 has an aluminum rim so I cut a couple of strips of the carpet padding the width of the rim, not touching the head or resonator and lined the rim with them between the coordinator rods.  This padding (HomeDepot green stuff) is homogenous and resembles the more rubbery copper pipe insulation  It may be my imagination, but I don't think I lost any volume and just trimmed off some of the shrillness.  Sounds better, warmer.

Really good idea. I have two Rovers, and the necks are very nice.

It still sounds "hollow" when you get on it, but a lot of the overtones are gone. I agree, the neck is really nice.
