In my recent Doc Watson research I came across his version of the Carter family classic Keep on the Sunny Side of Life. Do you ever have a song grab you, and you can't get it out of your mind? Well something about Doc's version grabbed me, and the only way to exorcize the demon (for me) is to work up a clawhammer version of the song. Which I did and just posted in the tab archive. An mp3 is there (I really need to find a better singer!) as well as posted on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/rodeworks/keep-on-the-sunny-side-of-life
I picked up a copy of a new graphic novel on the Carter Family -- The Carter Family: Don't Forget This Song
by Frank M. Young and David Lasky which can be found at http://www.amazon.com/The-Carter-Family-Dont-Forget/dp/0810988364 . I am not a huge graphic novel fan, but this one is nicely done, and includes some material from their radio recordings at station XET on the US/Mexican border in 1938. The book is a fun way to learn more about the Carter family's history. It is pretty incredible how much influence they had -- without them the face of country and popular music would be much different today.
