looked at one today at antique shop. they are asking 175 but 5th and 4th string are resting on the fret board is this worth getting and how do i tell whats wrong with it and not to expensive to fix.

The worth of it depends on the make, model and year of the instrument. Ask them if they'll allow you to take pictures of it (they probably won't) to send to a luthier (you can find one here on BHO) to see about possible repairs.
Short of that, bring a friend who has been playing for some time to look at the instrument and give you advice.

Thanks for the info. Since then we've looked at it closer and determined that the neck was twisted pretty bad and did'nt want to spend 175 bucks on a wall hanger!
