I'm very curious about this amazing pre-war Gibson Studio King. I'm posting pictures posted on my homepage. Can't find any references to Studio Kings in walnut. Got it from a member on the hangout, who got it from Huber, who told him it was a 1930s Studio King. It's very much like a 1930s Style 4, one-piece flange, walnut with chrome hardware. Originally had a 40-hole archtop ring, cut by Huber for an HR-30 flathead. Differs from a Style 4 in that it only has 3 resonator lugs, one co-rod, and no purfling rings on resonator back. No serial number or label. Rim varies from 0.61" to 0.625" in thickness--don't know if that makes it a "Fatboy" or not, but the sound coming out of this thing seems to come from another world! Truly incredible.
The neck is walnut Flying Eagle by an unknown maker

Yes, I can say that about this one. Walnut neck and HR30 ring. Best sounding banjo I've ever played, by a long shot. And I've had a couple of pre-wars, and a '54 with McPeake ring, etc.

I do love The tone of walnut. Strong, but very pure. Congrats on a very cool banjo...it's a keeper for sure!
