Played in front of family and everything went fine!

Last Sunday was a family reunion which happens every January and this is the 3rd January I brought my banjo. Well the first year didn't count because I have been only playing a couple of months, last year was OK but this year a family member said wow you have come along way since last year (nice compliment). Now I usually play the banjo at home practicing everyday (hours & hours on the weekend) now I really don't have anyone to play with so I am always playing to Mp3's, also at home I get to drink beer so I am having a blast. Now I had to play in front of the family (sober to boot because I had to drive) but I brought my Mp3's I downloaded into my phone and I brought a little speaker and I was a one man band, also it helped my timing and confidence with warming up, Good experience, I still need to play in a bar experience (open mic) but I feel like I am getting there.

That's awesome! I can recommend Pete Wernick's learn to jam class. It gets you to play and sing in front of others. I guarantee I'm the worst there but........it helps gain some experience and courage.

congrats on your experience!

That's real progress....cool.
You can't drink a beer at the reunion? You can drive on one beer.

Yeah but I always want more! When I play at home on Saturyday and get in the zone thats when I have the most fun, but it was cool to know I can do it sober too! Thanks for the input.

Start participating in jams as soon as possible and as often as possible. With the progress you have described, your picking will be confused with Earl's picking after you have jammed with others for a year or less!!!!
