I started to learn the 5 string using" Beginning Banjo Vol 1" By Murphy Henry and since  have tried quite a few different DVD teachers but have always come back to the Murphy Method. I carn`t read music and don`t have the tolerance for tabs but with the M/Method I can stop, rewind and play back as many times as I like. I just find the way she explains everything suits me

I ordered Beginning Banjo Vol 1 by Murphy Henry back in 2005 with life being as busy as it is I went through that DVD and ordered Vol 2 but stopped working with the banjo. I have several books from Earl Scruggs, Jack Hatfield, Janet Davis and several others along with a few other videos but like you I have always gone back and gotten more out of the Murphy Method. I have just recently pick my banjo back up and have gotten my Murphy Method dvd's back out and I have worked my way through Vol. 1 now. I had never forgotten Banjo In The Hollow and Cripple Creek and now have Cumberland Gap and FMB. I'm now beginning to work on John Hardy. This is the only method for me. That's for sure. Hopefully when I get finished with Vol.2 I will order some more of her stuff. She has been a blessing for me and my banjo. Thanks.

Have just completed John Hardy on M/M Vol 1, not up to speed yet, and managed to complete up the neck of Foggy Mountain Breakdown Vol 2. I feel learning is getting a bit easier now.

I have recently come back to banjo. I have just about all of Murphy's DVD's. Started on Vol 1 several years ago. Now I am re-introducing myself back to them. I was amazed at how much I still remembered. I am sticking with it now for sure!

I can read some tab and I do play an upright bass. But Murphy Method is pretty good to learn with. I think once you work through all of her stuff you will have the banjo down. Plus they do alot of banjo camps too. They say they are pretty good with working with you.

Plus Glenn Miller has Pickers Academy which isn't a bad gig either his tab and videos are easy to follow somewhat. But I would stick with all of murphys stuff. Watch her sales that is how I bought mine pretty reasonable I think they are worth it. Good Luck!
