I have been a very bad person and had not been playing my banjo much for quite sometime. But Sunday morning when I let my dog out, it was such a beautiful Fall morning with a touch of Indian Summer in the air, it reminded me of two years ago when I took a clawhammer banjo class at John C. Campbell Folk School in western North Carolina. Northern Michigan is not the Blue Ridge but there was just something that brought me back to that beautiful place.
I went inside, got out the banjo (and tuner!), some music tabs, and a cup of coffee. I sat out on my stoop in my pajamas and played in the morning. It was a beautiful way to start the day.
I find myself turning to my banjo again after too long of a break. I let life get in the way of enjoying good music. Now I listen to others often, but even for a novice, the making of music (no matter how good or bad it sounds) is such a joy.
So, I don't think that banjo case is going to gather much dust anymore. I am going to listen to the World Series and pick along while rooting for the Tigers.
