Musings of an old picker and the Gold Star Banjos

I have never made a blog entry before so I hope this is what it means. In August of this year I ordered a new GF-100 H&F Gold Star banjo. I am thoroughly impressed! Years ago I lived in Ontario and I and a musician friend used to go to Michigan to visit a music store which carried the Gold Star banjos and I remember how impressed we were with this product back then in the 70's. Anyway back in August I sent my order in to Banjo.Com and the service here was great and prompt. After getting my banjo I put on a 5 Star head and a Waverly tailpiece. I have a 1979 Stelling Super Star that I've been playing for the past 26 years and it is a good banjo but I must say that since getting the Gold Star, the Stelling has stayed in the case. I have played a good number of banjos over the years and I have to say - There may be a lot of good ones out there but in my opinion I have not seen a better one than my new GF-100! I love the action and the feel of the neck and it has a great sound! I don't know if this is true or just a thought - but - I like the feel of the real wood finger board. The GF-100 has an Ebony fingerboard. A real good banjo that us folks with less cash can afford! I see why Tom Adams stuck with his GF-100! Bob Jones
