Had my first response to the 10,000 applications I sent out looking for a job. A wildlife refuge needs a director with some fund-raising experience. It's out on Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound. I always wanted to live on an island. Also, they do a bluegrass festival fund-raiser. How cool is that. I think I could really enjoy that.
As I was writing this, I got a callback to go out to Bainbridge Island to meet with the board of directors of the wildlife center next Tuesday. Sounds hopeful. I could enjoy working with bluegrass festivals and rescuing ducks and eagles.
I appreciate all my friends prayers on my behalf.
Thanks a bunch (but don't stop now).

Wow, sounds like it would be a great job. Good luck! I have been on the volunteer end of NP fundraising & grant writing-back in the dark ages before we had all of the professional help. I can appreciate your expertice! Brad

Try not to lick your lips at the interview when they mention the ducks.

The interview went well. I took the train and the ferry. Missed a bus connection and wound up walking about ten miles all told yesterday. My cell phone went wonky and I made the mistake of using the payphone at the Ferry terminal. Cost me $60. Do NOT use the credit card phones run by WiMac Tel or one of its 150 aliases. Couldn't get a connection and was charged $15 a call for 4 30 second phone calls.
I have their address in Palo Alto and I may visit their HQ if they don't refund my money!
I have a baseball bat and I've visited scammers before.

Well, I was the fourth rated candidate out of 200 applicants. They called back the top three.
Oh, well, back to the the hunt.

I've found a senior community that will accept me as a resident. I'm not sure that makes me feel better.

Apparently the retirement center has looser standards than the wildlife refuge.
