Summer's here and the time is right...

....for banjo playing! At any rate, I hope that everyone is doing well. I've had a great time teaching this past spring at Banjo Camp North, the Midwest Banjo Camp and the California Bluegrass Association Music Camp in Grass Valley. Coming up in July is the wonderful Camp Bluegrass in Levelland, Texas and NashCamp Bluegrass Week in Cumberland Furnace, TN. Check out my Schedule page for all of the details.

There is a new book available at my web store: Parking Lot Picker's Songbook: Banjo Edition from Mel Bay Publications. Co-author Dix Bruce and I have been working on this project for about three years now and it's great to finally see it published! This volume includes over 225 bluegrass and old-time favorites (mostly vocal tunes, although I do tab out a version of "Train 45" with six variations!). The neat thing about this book is that there are two CDs included with the book where Dix and I sing and play a verse and chorus of every song in the book. I use the backup techniques that I teach on my three AcuTab instructional DVDs.

Most of you know that I've been spending the last six months writing "Banjo For Dummies" for John Wiley Publishing (the famous yellow and black book folks). I'm very excited about this project, which is set for release on August 14th. The book features a buyer's guide to banjos and accessories, an introduction to clawhammer and bluegrass styles and even some intermediate to advanced instruction in 19th century minstrel, early 20th century classic and Scruggs, melodic and single-string styles. I put together four new original tunes for the book - which has over 130 photos, 130 musical examples and a CD!

Now that the book is pretty much completed, I'm looking forward to returning to more private teaching and performing all around the country. Look for performances this year with my band Bill Evans String Summit, with Jody Stecher and our "Secret Life of Banjos" concert, fiddler Megan Lynch and a series of solo shows in Virginia scheduled for November.

Thanks to everyone for your continued interest and support. I couldn't do it without you!
