Hi Lexi.. welcome to the BHO. There are great people here, and wonderful information. Use those links to the left under 'lessons' and 'links'.. there are some free video lessons for beginners at Folkofthewood.com and at EZFolk.com. Good luck, and just don't give up. As I read elsewhere today... there is no deadline or expiration. You start now.. and you keep on learning. I'm 40, and just got my banjo on Wednesday... and I'm having a blast. I'm sure you will too. Take care. - Karyn

Hi, Lexi...
What type of banjo do you have? Does it have 5 strings, or 4? Most Irish musicians play a 4 string tenor banjo, but it is certainly possible to play the misc on a 5-string. (If that's the music you want to play). The 5-string is played with the fingers, and the others are played with flat picks. You can play a 5-string with a flatpick, but most players don't.
hang out for a while, read a lot, be sure and check through the arcives for questions you may have, and have a lot of fun!
