Tonight I went to my first bluegrass jam. It was called the Full Moon Pickin' Party. It was in one of the fields of the stables where they hold Steeplechase in Nashville. It was quite a turnout! I wasn't sure what to expect, so I brought my banjo along. It was fun to sit on a blanket in the grass and listen to the players, and pick around on my banjo. I will definitely try to go to the next one in July! :-)

Great! It takes many people years to get up the nerve to take their instrument to a jam session. You are on your way. :)

Sounds like a good time and a great setting. Here in Japan in the Fall they have Moon Viewing Parties, not quite the same as your jam, but they sometimes include the samisen.
