Last night was bittersweet for me. I went over to Meadowgreen Park to watch my friends in concert. J.D. announced that he would be retiring soon. I didn't get to talk with him as long as I would have liked, but apparently when J.D. finishes his current obligations he will retire. It sure looks like this year will be his last. They Guys in the band had a Great ! session and J.D. was Awesome as usuall. Ricky was usual comedic self as well. They also announced a New South reunion jam in Beanblossom this year. Deatails are forth coming.

I hate to hear that because I love to hear him pick but ... I understand his wanting to retire and get off the road and take it easy and enjoy the rest of his life.

It's fortunate that he's in a position to retire. Lots of players from his generation really didn't have anything to live on when they stopped performing.
Hopefully he'll still be able to make some cameos here and there.

This may allow him to appear at some banjo camps in the future, so more of us folks can meet him.
