Hello all,
I have not been playing as much as before. I have still been picking up my banjo from time to time and don't think it would take long to get back to where I was, but would really like to be in a band. I feel like learning one song and then the next is not pushing me like it did when I started. If my social skills were a little better, I'm sure that I could be in a band now. Of course I don't know where I would find the time either.

See if you can find a jam session in your area and go there -- perhaps you'll meet people who also want to be in a band and you can form one and enjoy!

Chad, there's still some seisiun (say it like 'session') going on in Mesa/Tempe/Gilbert. This is like a jam session, going round and taking turns picking a song and everyone joins in to the best of their ability. It is mostly Irish folk songs/drinking songs, but there's a place for a banjo there, even if it's not a tenor or plectrum. I don't know of any Bluegrass stuff going on in the Valley at all, though. You could try looking here:

These are always a lot of fun, and you get to meet a lot of good folks.
Luck,

Maybe you could start checking out some regular jams... I didn't really go looking for bands when I first started playing banjo. I had been in so many traditional rock/alt/pop bands playing guitar in my younger days. I just went looking for some casual jams with the banjo.
But as I started playing at the jams, the bands found me. I play pretty regularly with my main band these days and I also sub for two others. The neat thing about the jam environment is that you get a good feel for the people you can potentially hook up with to form bands. I think that my personal connections are way more solid with my current lineup than they ever were when I used to play guitar years ago.
You might want to try checking in with some Arizona based groups about jams near you. Maybe check with this group right here on BHO - banjohangout.org/group/arizona...thusiasts
