Well, another Wintergrass has come and gone and what a great festival it was. The performances, the workshops and the jamming were all wonderful. My new favorite band is now Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice. They were already high on my list since I heard them in Long Beach, WA in 2010. The banjo playing of Jason Davis has put them on top for me. Jason is a hard driving, rock solid player and his Hatfield banjo sounded marvelous. I got a chance to talk to Jason about his Hatfield and he is very pleased with it. He has only been playing it since October and it sounded like he did a lot of looking.
I also got to hear the genius of Jens Kruger. The Kruger Brothers are another of my favorites. I was a little surprised to see Jens play some clawhammer. It was beautifully played, but I don’t remember him playing in this style the last time I saw him. Their performances were absolutely spectacular.
There were so many terrific banjo players there including Justin Moses, Kristin Scott Benson, Silvio Ferretti and a whole host of others. The hardest part of a festival like this is trying to figure out your schedule with so many great activities. Food and sleep come second of course.

I agree completely; this year's Wintergrass was incredible. From the straight ahead players to those pushing the boundaries, it was all good.
