Zoom H2 is [NOT] Here!

Posted by Stev187 on Thursday, June 7, 2007

[NOTE:  I have jumped the gun.  The H2 is still not available at retailers.  They are all ready to sell them, and it's priced at $199 just about everywhere.  They won't be shipping until August--apparently they've been tweaking the production on the mics.  So even if I had the dough I couldn't part with it yet.]

At MBC I sorely realized my need for a decent tunesucker.  My new buddy Adam had one of those CompactFlash Marantz units that could cause anyone to drool.  I thought Mike Seeger was going faint when Adam showed him everything it could do.  But I don't have $600+ to put into a field recorder, and I'm not sure I'd want to.  I've been waiting for the Zoom H2, and it's finally here.  In my opinion, at $200 it's the ultimate tunesucker.

I've got one of those $600 drool-over Marantz units... but it didn't stop me from drooling over this.

Wow.

The size and smaller price tag make this more "festival freindly."  How do you like that Marantz?

LOVE the Marantz!  Listen in to any of the recording on my BHO MUSIC page.  Made 'em all with the PMD660.

My FAV of all time, though, is the way it recorded Geoff's Soldier's Joy under a tarp in the rain last Saturday!  You can hear every instrument... and Geoff's big old Martin just rumbles that drop D!

I neeeeeeeed one !

I was waiting for it - the H4 is great but a little bit too much expensive for me. Beside, for $200 I'll be less reluctant to carry this one everywhere.

I'm working up some tunes for my next CD and I've been trying to make demos for my band members with my sad mini-cassette recorder.

I'd love to get one of these...it seems perfect.  Does anybody know if it's compatible with a Mac?

This thing looks like it's totally Mac friendly.  I also like the digital time stamp feature--kind of like a digital camera for sounds.  As I said in the "tunesucker" thread, I've been waiting for this one to come out for a while.  Seems to me that the balance of size, features, and price makes it a perfect tunesucker.  Now I just gotta find $200 lying around somewhere...

I recently borrowed my supervisor's Zoom H4 to record some samples of my piano. I was amazing! If the H2 is anything like that it's a bargain at $199. Great little machines.

Oh Boy, do I need one of those!  Of course, they probably won't appear over here in UK for another year or so at least, and the price will most likely be a straight  $US to £UK as usual.

Still, I shall keep a close Eye on it from now on!
