Banjo + Sax + Guitar + Bass = Alliance!

Posted by Janna on Thursday, February 16, 2012

I have great news! Yesterday I played banjo on the concert with my new band, named Alliance, in the first time!

"Alliance" - is my new music band, where I'm working as a singer. Me and my partner who is also a singer, Felix, we were working together for a long time as a duet singing on the weddings. Alex helped us with arrangements for the songs and one day we decided to ask him to join us and he agreed! So we became a trio! Alex also sings and plays guitar in the band! Some time ago we met another musician who's name is Olim, he played sax and we became good friends very quickly and decided to play together :) Now we became a quartet! Me and Felix were only singers in the band, but then he wanted to learn bass guitar and Alex teached Felix how to play bass for about a month. I tried to play banjo with them.

Now we all can do what we want, it seems we feel free to play music not for only work, but for our soul too... It is hard to believe, but yesterday was our first performing on the stage. We played in Musical College of the Wind Instruments where teachers learn children to play winds like sax, clarinet, trumpet, horn, trombone, flute and others. And one of the teachers is our saxophonist Olim. So our public were the children who learn there! We played two instrumentals - Classical Gas and one new tune named Caliente. Our music is unusual for Tashkent, because we played banjo with saxophone and electro guitar and bass )) Children liked banjo very much! They were shouting and clapping very loud!!!

So, now I think that the new band was born in my city and I'm the banjo player there! I'm glad that now I'm not alone and will play banjo not only in my room at home. We have learned only two tunes for the time while we are together, and I hope we will learn more in the future!

"Caliente" is written by Riccardo Scivales, the famous piano teacher. Our saxophonist Olim found it in a musical book for piano) But he doesn't play piano, so he played it on sax)) Alex made a new arrangement for this tune and we learned it on our instruments for that concert, and then we made a record of it for our friends.

So, I can share with you the result of our "Alliance" -
