I took the plunge...

Posted by TimDreamer on Thursday, February 16, 2012

Ok, I finally got to do it.  I have my 'jo on the way.  I know I went against the grain of most of the recommendations that I've seen on this site and my instructor by buying a new banjo from instead of a used one.  I ordered the Mastercraft Classic Burled Maple Banjo because I wanted something that I can break in and work with and change to how I want it to feel like.  Sounds stupid, huh?  It was also in my price range and came with a hard case, which is another thing that I liked.  Yeah, it's not a Deering or a Gold Tone or an Recording King R35 but then I'm not up to that level of playing yet.  I can see a long time of practicing and jamming with this one before I get to that level.  Ya'll will just have to bear with me as I go through this noob stage.... hehehe.  I'll let you know how it feels when I get it.  Right now I'm pretty excited.  Even at this price range it was a sacrifice financially, so I'll have to pinch pennies for a while to make up for the purchase.

Just looked at the pics. Sweet and pretty. Does it sounds as pretty? What does your cat think of your new banjo?

It sounds very sweet and pretty. I'll bet it would give a Gold Tone BG250F a run for it's money. I've practiced my forwards and backwards rolls, Bile Them Cabbage Down, Banjo in the Hollow and Blackberry Blossom on it and it rings true from the nut up to the twelfth fret. Haven't tried Cripple Creek on it yet, my fingers got sore.... LoL. Oh, and before anyone asks for a recording.... I don't have a webcam yet. Nor do I think that my playing would stand recording right yet either.... hehehe.
