Went over to the North Side last nite to see the Pittsburgh Banjo Club at the Elks near Allegheny General Hospital. They meet every Wednesday eve. from 8-11 PM, but this is the first time I ever attended. Strictly 4-string tenors though, music from the 20’s and 30’s.bMust have had 30 players on stage, not including a clarinet and 2 trumpeters.Got quite a crowd in there, from 20-somethings with nose rings all the way up to senior citizens on oxygen bottles. Had a chance to talk with a guy named Norm Azinger, a double-bass player mainly for Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers, but handles a tenor very well. He told me there’s a Bluegrass expo called the Ice Jam next weekend at the Days Inn in Butler on RT. 8 so I plan to see what that is all about.
