Wow, what a rush!! My first ever music lesson on the banjo. A shout out to Wil Huckabay for putting up with this noob hacking his way through an hour long session. He is an awesome teacher. I demonstrated proficiency in the forward/backward roll and the song Banjo in the Hollow along with tablature reading and beginning the song Cripple Creek. Of course, If it hadn't been for my friend Bill loaning me his starter banjo back at the beginning of December and showing me the forward/backward roll and loaning me a copy of the tab for Banjo in the Hollow I wouldn't have been this far along. I never thought that I was musically inclined as growing up I wasn't really interested in music. Loved to listen to it and (sort of) dance to it, but never picked up a musical instrument or attempted to play one until now. All I can say is thank you again to Wil and Bill for a memorable day, I am looking forward to learning even more. Oh, my aching fingers...... lol. I hope I develop calluses really, really soon!!

Congratulations. You're certainly now on the road to fun. It's never too late to learn a new instrument. Like you, I started to play late in life in my mid-50's a few years ago. I now play the banjo, mandolin, fiddle (with varying degrees of skill but equal enjoyment) and now I'm learning the 'cello. Next?

PS, I used to live a bit north of you in The Woodlands and worked in Houston. We moved back to NC in 2001.
Happy new year.
