I have known for some time now that a trip to Tiawan is coming. It seems that my son who lives there is getting married and Tiawan tradition says that the parents of the bride and groom have to get aquainted before the children can proceed with the wedding. I guess my new banjo purchase will be put on hold for awhile.

With my usual piercing logic and lack of sensitivity (I'm a so called Banjo player) I think a good compromise would be for them to come over here and visit. It is their custom after all. The big upside is that you could have your banjo and become aquainted with you new in-laws. Different horses for different courses.

Believe me, I tried that logic. it didn't work. But ! it is my son's wedding, Maybe I can tell them it is American tradition for the brides father to buy the grooms father a new banjo !
