I recently change the bridge on my Recording King Elite 75 Banjo to a Snuffy 656 size which I believe is slightly higher than the standard 5/8 size and tightened my brackets around the Banjo head which is now super tight , this Banjo is now super bright is this what banjo players usually do? I noticed my 3rd string on the 12th fret sounds a little out of tune when I use the harmonic the other strings sound fine the Banjo plays fine, am I just being a perfectionist?

It is probably off (third string), when you put the taller bridge on you also raised the string height, when you have to move the string farther to the fret it will be a little sharp. Also when you tightend the head you also raised the bridge. You may have to adjust the coordnater rods. Head tension bridge height and tail piece angle is wear the fine tuneing comes from. You didn't say if you set the harmonics. If you put on a new bridge or even change string guage you should reset the bridge for harmonic's. Best of luck Gary C

Try moving/angling the bridge.
