Hey Folks... Could I get some feedback for a new player... What do you guys think of Martinez banjos in particular the MBJ deluxe model, the one with the eagle inlay on the back of the resonator?
I've only just started playing and have an Epiphone ( which is I'm learning on) but have been bitten by the "banjobug" and am in love!!!
I have seen one of these Martinez models and can get it for a great price but want the thoughts of those who have been playin' for a while... Is Martinez a good brand? The banjo is ahead of my skill level but the price is exceptional... So I'm thinking ahead but know little about different models.
Could you offer your thoughts before I lash out and spend the dough?

Hey, mate. I just came across this, somewhat old, post. It seems that there are a lot of Martinez banjos being flogged in Australia. I believe they are cheapos, low quality banjos made in China. Did you end up buying one or were you dissuaded ultimately?

My apologies mate that I haven't replied to your response to me. Missed it altogether.
Yes I did learn more about Martinez banjos and you were right re where they're from. I spoke to their importer in Melbourne and discussed with him the banjo I was interested in. He basically confirmed what you have said however when I told him about the particular banjo I had seen, he convinced me I was getting a good deal. He wasn't benefiting so I felt more comfortable. The model I bought was the top of the range. The resonator was damaged but the store i bought it from knocked just over $1000 bucks off... It sounds good to me and looks great. At the level I'm playing I'm happy with it! I now have what I call my "birthday banjo"(present from my wife and son) and my "fancy banjo" the Martinez with a cool eagle head on the back and beautiful inlay up the neck... I'm happy!
Thanks falling and sorry again for not having responded sooner....
