BCBW Great Week

Posted by chuckles50 on Monday, September 19, 2011

I attended the British Columbia BlueGrass Workshop in late August/early September. Though it's in it's 22nd year of success, this was my first attendance.  I had a blast. It was unlike anything I've ever been to and that's a good thing. From the high stress workday world of television news, I stepped through the looking glass and found myself in a world where there was no TV and the Internet was down most of the week (a good thing). I ate, slept and breathed bluegrass music and banjo for the entire week. I was treated to the sounds of many great pickers with so much talent. I met wonderful, honest, music loving people from all over Canada and the US. And I learned a great deal about bluegrass music, not only how to jam, but the history of the genre itself. And one young lad I met from Northern British Columbia told me I "shred" on the banjo. My daughter later told me that was a good thing.

I may never be a great player, but I continue to improve and my confidence level is coming up ... slowly. I had my yearly physical exam at my doctor's office about a week after returning. My blood pressure was right back down to where it should be. Bluegrass is good for your health!
