Old Timey Political Songs

Posted by ScottKnick on Tuesday, November 7, 2006

Hey, everybody's gotta have a schtick, and I collect old-timey political songs from the early-to-mid 20th century. I love the arcane topical references and the wry, contemporary view of events we only learned about in history books. Plus most of them are pretty good songs! Pull one out at a jam session and you'll make heads spin.

Here a some of my favorites -- anybody got any more? Maybe this blog would be a good place to post lyrics.

The Battleship of Maine (Spanish-American War)
White House Blues (The McKinley Assasination)
We've Got Franklin D. Roosevelt Back Again (FDR's first re-election)
I'm No Communist (Grandpa Jones' loyalty oath)
Rights of Ladies (Women's Suffrage)
Wilson That's All (1912 Campaign song)
