Know what you mean. I grew up in one of those towns in the south. I lived with my uncle who was the chief of police. He had one "deputy" called Goat. We would literally turn off the one street light at 10:00 every night. That town doesn't exist anymore as I knew it. The world has changed a lot since then, especially after 911. I think the banjo helps to bring us back to those times. Fortunately I now live in another "Mayberry" with a population of about 300, now in Colorado. Still a great place to raise kids. I don't feel guilty one bit about it. Sounds like you have a unique attitude, considering the Sacramento rat race!

I too, live in another "Mayberry"! The population here is 125, give or take a few. Everybody knows everybody, and all the goings on in town. The town literally closes down by about 9 pm or so. Sunday mornings are church time, and then the town lies again quiet, till monday. What Bliss!

P.S. I'm originally from Linden, Ca. About 65 miles South and East of Sacramento.

Both your towns sound nice. Yeah, Sacramento can be a bit much, but given that I grew in Orange County in Southern California, it feels like Mayberry in comparison!

Yeah, Sacramento can be nice too! Lots of things to go and do close by! Its pretty far to any big activities around here, and with gas at 3.39, I'll just have to find things to do around here!
Have a good one!

My hometown isn't as small as Mayberry, but whenever i go back there, especially if I'm in town at night, I bask in the total silence - nothing but an occasional cricket, it's so peaceful. Ya just don't get that in the city. Thanks for the memory.
