If you have not been to a recording studio, I recommend it. It was quite an experience to just participate in the exercise. We had laid down some tracks (I had done 2 or 3 tracks for each song) for Dave’s upcoming demo before booking the time. I arrived at the “Zen Den” (Zen Recording, a division of Independent Music Group) around 4 pm, walked in with axe in hand. The engineer (Steve Connelly) copied the tracks to his computer, played them, and promptly stated “sounds good”. Hmmm, I spent the rest of the night watching Steve work. Dave had hired a drummer (Brian) and a fiddle player (Amanda) for the session. Steve added electric guitar, pedal steel, mandolin, and bass to the tracks (he is quite a talent). We finished around midnight needing only some female vocal backup and a final mix down. After 8 hours I didn’t open the banjo case. I’m guessing most of the banjo will be mixed out for the final release (like all the stuff coming out of Nashville). I’m looking forward to the finished product, and I will share it with you when I get it.
