this banjo thing is really starting to wear on me i just cant seem to get to where i want to be , patients is the key i know .funny thing is no matter how much i want to throw it out the window i just cant seem to put it down

You named it - patience. Of course if you have really been playing since 2004 and are still calling yourself a "novice" maybe you have exhibited enough patience, and need a good instructor. :-)
Good luck, I'm sure I can't offer you any advice except to not throw it out the window and keep playing.

ho.w much do you practice? do you play with others how many songs do you know from memory, how often do you learn a new song. These are things that will answer your questions about progress.playing with others will show you where you are at and what you need to work on. We all hit walls but with time and lots of playing time you will get past it and on to the next hurdle. keep on pickin' ,best of luck Gary C
