If you also play the fiddle or know someone who does, check out the first page of my website to read about and see two photos of my amazingly effective tone amplifier/enhancer for fiddles called, "FiddleFish". I played my fiddle with one in our Irish session this past Sunday and FiddleFish gave my rental quality fiddle beautiful tone with tremendous volume. I had so much fun playing it that I only played my banjo for three polkas! The FiddleFish is being sold now for $15 which includes postage to U.S. destinations.
But, SUPRISE! FiddleFish also gave my Irish tuned (GDAE) Goldtone CC Irish tenor a better sound than the "ToneFish" tone amp that I had been using! So it has complicated things a bit by doing a better job in that banjo. I'll be checking how it sounds in my Gibson tenor today compared with the ToneFish that I have in it now. So I have an internal competition going on between FiddleFish and ToneFish about which to use in banjos, mandolins and guitars! That's a nice problem to have!
One of the things that makes FiddleFish so effective is that it is mounted in a new way on the violin. Rather than take the input surface waves from a location next to the sound hole, they are now taken from right behind the bridge - where high frequencies (harmonics) are very strong. I'll be doing the same thing with guitars and mandolins when comparing the two to see which to offer. This is possible with a new, transparent, high frequency surface wave "waveguide" that I came up with last week to transmit surface waves from the bridge area (including the bridge itself) to the tone amp.
So "FiddleFish" is being sold now (see page one of my website) and its, "Stop the presses", on "ToneFish" sales because FiddleFish sounded so good in my Irish tenor.
These are very exciting and happy days for me. Now if I can just convince a few fiddle players to try it.
