I managed to get off "work" in time to drive over to the weekly jam at Fries,VA last night. I found myself sitting between very interesting visitors. On my left was a mandolin player from Lancaster, PA who is touring The Crooked Road with his wife as a vacation this summer. On my right were a husband (guitar) and wife (banjo) from Melboure, Australia who are spending 5 weeks following the music in America. She was playing a lovely open back Buckmaster banjo. Seems he is a craftsman in Melbourne who, judging from the construction and marquetry, is a big fan of Vegas from 100 years ago. Really nice looking instrument, and it played well with a nice bright sound. We swapped my Vega Seeger model for the Buckmaster for a few tunes.
Anyway, great night and a great time chatting with the visitors. They have a very well defined sense of what makes a good vacation!
