Jamming

Posted by pcfive on Wednesday, June 15, 2011

I went to one of my usual jam sessions tonight. Before going, I was thinking my usual negative thoughts -- I'm no good, no one wants to hear me, I shouldn't sing, etc. But then, as usual, I thought "Well if anyone doesn't like it, they can have their money back." Which, of course is $0.

So I didn't feel nervous at all. I don't usually get very nervous, sometimes a little, but recently not at all. I think maybe it's because it's all just for fun, no reason to get serious and nervous about it.

I used to only play instrumentals but recently I started singing also, sometimes. I love to sing, but I'm not too good at it, although getting better because I practice.

There were two songs I wanted to sing tonight, but tried to talk myself out of it. I didn't listen to myself and I sang them anyway. And it was ok! No one ran out of the place covering their ears.

And afterwards, I got some nice compliments. I was even told my picking was TOO LOUD at times! I had never been told that before.

So, jamming is really getting better. I get called on for breaks sometimes and I can improvise a little. Jamming is definitely not easy, not for me anyway, but if you keep going you will get better. And it certainly is fun.
