Posted by dthomas on Monday, May 30, 2011

Ok to whom it may concern, i am finely starting to get something going on. but I have had to put in the time at least 2 1/2 hours a day and then some , but i can hear the difference, and I can feel the difference in my fingers, thats pretty cool I think, looking forward to talking to anyone who is starting out, and anyone who is great or better than me. thanks for your time blog

Welcome Don, it's a good feeling when you begin to hear and feel your learning starting to come good, I know, have been learning 12mnths now and I am beginning to get some tunes going albeit not very fast but that's how to learn, slowly, each note clear and in the right place.I've never played an instrument in my life till I decided to learn the banjo and boy is it addictive.Have fun in your learning is what I have been told and a big welcome to the hangout. Trish

Practice will turn into enjoyable habit. I get withdrawal if I don't play every day.

Hi Don, you are putting in the work (fun) to become a good player. I have been at it almost a year and pick up the banjo every single day, even if it is only for 20 or 30 minutes some days. I keep it fun, not a rigorous routine that might turn into a chore. Time and practice will usually bring improvement, and the "wow" response when you turn out some cool tune. Happy picking and welcome to the hangout.

I just got my first banjo, ( been playing guitar for many years, always wanted to play a 5-string
bluegrass) and am learning the three main chord forms and three-finger picking fairly quickly. Going slow and learning a few well-know tunes. Lots of fun pickin' tbis banjo and got a great instrument from a forum member!

Oh WoW, janeway, kevinwholmes,Karen Kruske, mcate, thanks for the call backs, been around banjohangout since 2/23/11 and i felt like know one was listen, but you all came though at the right time, thanks Yea i am not musical inclined at all have 5 guitars, two fiddles, two banjos, drums and a keyboard for my son, who can do anything he wants with music and is to lazy to try! Yes it is addictive very much so, i can't miss a day or i feel like have lost something. and while i have some ones attention, when i pick with the open G,it seems to me that I am starting to make music, is that something that my mind has made up because i am practicing so much, they are not songs but rhytm and it sound cool, my thumb jumps all over the place and it seems to be pulling me into the notes, the feeling is incredible, thanks for making me feel at home, your the best!!!
