Playing with David Kramer again for 2 weeks (see pic in photos from last time). Took a coupla nights to tighten the numbers in the repertoire but it's sounding smooth again. Not much different on the collection of rolls I use but there is a number called 'Biscuits and Biltong' where he introduces me and asks me to show regular Scruggs-style rolls and I've embellished that with a few licks to make it a little more musically interesting. In that intro he explains to the audience how the banjo travelled from Africa to America with the slave trade - and then sorta 'came back' to Cape town in the 19th century with the Christy Minstrels. They visited Cape Town where they performed in a theatre in Harrington Street and had a huge impact on local audiences, helping to build a whole new style of music here. He goes on to call Cape Town a mixing-bowl of musical cultures - hence the name of the show: "Breyani"
